Mary Ellen Bennett, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 23 years of experience working in the behavioral health field. She received her Bachelors of Science in Psychology and Masters Degree in Social Work from San Diego State University.
Since 2000, she has been teaching clients Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills in individual therapy and group settings. According to Dr. Marsha Linehan who developed this modality of therapy, the goal of DBT is to help clients have a “life worth living.” Mary Ellen is passionate about helping her clients achieve this goal and to assist them in developing balance in all aspects of their lives. In addition, she also has experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She has assisted her clients with increasing their awareness of their automatic negative thoughts, the emotions that result from the distorted thoughts, and has taught them ways to counter balance their distorted thought patterns in order to lessen the negative impact on their life.
Mary Ellen has an empathic, compassionate approach, but is direct when necessary. She has experience in working with clients with anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, grief/loss issues, stress management, parenting issues, women’s issues, and problems with adjusting to life transitions.
